Pitching A Game
I recently had the chance to pitch a game proposal. The game I pitched was called Art-Ificial, and was focused on the impact of machine learning based image generation programs on artists livelyhood, both from a perspective of financial impact, and in terms of the way that the programs have the potential to suck the joy out of the work. As such, the game was proposed as a kind of puzzle game, which slowly "devolved" into a cookie clicker style of automation gameplay as the artist was forced to use more and more automation to accomplish their work in time. Overall, I found that having a strong idea of the foundations of gameplay and themeing to be very helpful in pitching the concept, as going into the presentation I was able to quickly lock down what the fundamentals I needed to share to effectively communicate the concept (Such as the Anti-AI in art moral standpoint, and the financial/emotional balance artists face as a focal point).
This also helped alleviate the usual stress of presenting a concept, since even though the project was somewhat personal in focus, it was reassuring knowing I would have a strong idea of what the pitch was, and be able to answer any questions.
